INTRA-GUILD
Intra-guild sponsors and coordinates a variety of activities intended to bring members together to make friends and build community. We welcome your input and ideas - help us find creative, fun ways to come together.
Diane Ross, Intra-guild Chair, can be reached at intraguild@southbayquiltersguild.org
You can find the following activities in the below calendar
Lunch and Learn: These are informal gatherings of members to talk about an aspect of quilting. We meet at noon. Bring your lunch and a drink. Share your successes and failures with a given technique. You're also welcome to join us if you're just curious and want to learn. A Lunch and Learn is a great way to meet people who share your quilting interests and specialties. Locations will vary; attendance may be limited at smaller locations.
Short Term Projects: Short term projects are just that: Short activities that we allow a month or two to complete. We might meet in person or via zoom, or we might not need to meet at all. Making a block for a donation quilt is an example of a Short-Term activity.
Long Term Projects: Long Term Projects are expected to take 3-6 months to complete. We might meet in person or utilize zoom during these activities. Block of the Month and Round Robins are examples of Long-Term Projects.

Long Term Projects
2026 Scrap Challenge: in support of our Read Me a Quilt and Disaster Response projects. Use a kit of Guild fabric to make a quilt top for Read Me a Quilt or Disaster Response.
Our goals:
Our goals:
- Make quilts for those in need
- Use up the accumulated scraps and odd pieces of fabric
- Stretch our design skills with a new challenge
- Have fun!
Guidelines:
The event runs from July 2025 until June 2026, or until Community Services runs out of “scraps”.
“Scraps” may include small pieces, odd-shaped pieces, ordinary yardage, pieces with challenging designs or color schemes, pieces with fading or other damage you will need to work around. Finished tops must be 24 square feet or larger. For example, 4’ x 6’ or 5’ x 5’ quilts qualify, as do larger bed quilts. Smaller throws or baby quilts are too small. You may enter as often as you wish. Each finished top turned in earns you one entry in the year-end drawing. (Yes! There are prizes). If you quilt and bind the top, you will earn an additional entry to the drawing. The Guild will provide backing and batting if available.

UFO Challenge: Do you have “Un-Finished Objects”? You should join our Challenge! What’s a UFO? Any quilt project, 4 square feet or larger, that you haven’t worked on in more than 6 months. Count them up, and if you have 3 or more, you’re eligible to join the challenge. Sign up in August – you’ll need to know how many you have and the approximate age of the oldest one. Then work on finishing them up, but don’t add any new UFOs – they count in your total.
We’ll post progress every two months, and it’ll be easy. I’ll ask everyone who’s completed a project to stand up (or “raise hand” in zoom). We’ll continue to “count up”, giving the last one standing a round of applause. And of course, once you finish all your UFOs, you get to stay standing. We’ll have a prize drawing for participants at year end.

Block of the Month: 29 members have joined our Block of the Month. Although we started in September, it's still possible to join in. You'll just need to catch up. In January, we'll be making 4 Lily blocks, featuring y-seams.
Guild Past Projects
Round Robin Strip Quilt: 8 members participated in a Round Robin strip quilt, starting in May. They brought their completed tops to the November meeting to show, and we were very excited to see them. Members included Louise D, Valerie M, Rachel P, Michele R, Laura S, Gail VV, Pam W, and Janet W.
Bargello Project (Aug 2025): Our Bargello challenge wrapped up at the August meeting with a "Fashion Show." Participants showed their quilt tops. Some worked with their own fabrics while many chose to use a Guild kit of tropical themed fabrics, adding their own individual spin. The tropical themed tops were given to our Comfort Quilt project, where Mary Shadborne is prioritizing them for a special project. Thank you to all participants!
Fabric Printing (Aug 2025): On August 23, we enjoyed a fabric printing workshop led by Jen Foti, assisted by Karen Gibson. The weather gave us a break, we had fun and laughs, while learning a lot. Our prints ranged from tiny geometrics to large scale botanicals. Thanks Jen, for a fun learning opportunity!
Patriotic Block Raffle (May 2025): In May we had a block raffle. The theme was patriotic – red, white, and blue.
Rags to Riches (Mar 2025): In this challenge, recycled thrifted items, discarded clothing, and other fabric were turned into new items. This short-term project started March 1st and ended at the May Guild meeting (5/20) with a Show & Tell.
Pineapple Play (Feb 2025): Our Pineapple Quilt challenge wrapped up (technically) in February, but due to the variety and complexity of quilts, they are still coming in, even in August. So many different techniques, so many beautiful color schemes. If you haven't tried this quilt, it belongs on your bucket list.

Cookie Swap (Dec 2024)
10 members attended the holiday cookie swap at El Nido Park. Alex provided a tablecloth, plates, and napkins. Valerie brought a game and prize (a pretty holiday cookie tray) which was lots of fun. Many of us brought our lunches, but the stars of the show were... COOKIES! So many delicious kinds, and all so different. We shared holiday traditions and memories, while sharing each other's treats. We were having so much fun, the time just flew by. Too soon, we needed to tidy up and go. We each took home 5 dozen cookies to share with family and friends, as well as happy memories and laughs shared with Guild friends. Click on the photo for larger views and to see everyone.

Patriotic Pineapples (Oct 2024)
More than 30 members participated in "Patriotic Pineapples, making 90 blocks measuring 12". The blocks were assembled into 5 generous throw-sized quilts for gifting to our retired veterans. For many members, this was a first time they assembled a Pineapple Block and gave them valuable preparation for future quilts.
