WORKSHOP CREATIONS
Part of the South Bay Quilters Guild mission is to support the development of quilting skills of our members through workshops with local and nationally recognized quilt and textile artists.  This exhibit displays some of our member creations inspired by these workshops. The Workshop Creations exhibit will be on display beginning Saturday afternoon replacing the Auction quilts

Landscapes Made Easy

Alex Tsubota landscape quilt. Alex supplied the pattern and explained how to create the tracing pattern and cut the fabric taking into account the required overlap. The participants also learned about different kinds of fusible and how to create a pattern from a photograph.

Basics of Wool Applique

Catherine Redford: Eighteen students spent an enjoyable Saturday learning the basics of wool applique from Catherine Redford.  In the morning we cut out, layered, and basted our pieces down, then whip-stitched around each piece.  In the afternoon we learned 5 or 6 embroidery stitches, starting with the basics and advancing to fly, bullion, feather, and drizzle stitches, as well as beaded backstitch.  If you ever have a chance to take a class from Catherine, you'll learn and laugh all day!

Foundation Paper Piecing

Anne Sonner held her foundation paper piecing workshop based on a unique sampler, which was designed specifically for our guild.  The workshop, titled “SBQG By the Sea,” included basics in foundation paper piecing for the beginner and had more challenging blocks as well. The participants learned both traditional and custom blocks. The custom sampler is also shown.
